Football fans were met with great sadness on Saturday morning, July 6, 2024, as news broke that Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson had died. Khyree, along with two others, died in a car crash in Maryland, according to a statement from Maryland State Police. The promising football player was only 24 years old.

How Did Khyree Jackson Die?
Khyree Jackson, Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, were traveling in a maroon Dodge Charger in Prince George’s County when the crash occurred. Khyree was riding as the front seat passenger while Isaiah was driving. Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on July 6, 2024, state troopers arrived at the scene of the crash on northbound Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue and Presidential Parkway.
Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, including an Infiniti Q50 and a Chevrolet Impala. Police believe the driver of the Infiniti attempted to change lanes at high speed, striking the Charger and then the Impala. Upon arrival, police found Isaiah and Khyree, and pronounced them dead at the scene. Anthony was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead. No occupants of the other vehicles involved in the accident were killed.
Maryland police say charges are pending while an investigation is conducted.
Who Was Khyree Jackson?
Khyree Jackson was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on August 8, 1999. Standing 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 194 pounds, Khyree was a fourth-round selection by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft. Before finishing his college career at Oregon, Khyree played football for two years at Alabama.
Khyree was a strong candidate to start at cornerback for the Vikings. His death prompted an outpouring of love and condolences on social media. Coach Dan Lanning shared his thoughts on Twitter, writing, “RIP Khyree… Love you [tagged Khyree] at a loss for words. I will miss your smile. Great player better person.”
